The WaterRower Hybrid mixes a solid hardwood frame with aluminium parts, shown here in an oak finish. It keeps the brand's patented WaterFlywheel and adds a backlit CR monitor with Bluetooth. Our take
What the hybrid frame means
WaterRower describes the frame as handcrafted from solid hardwood and aluminium. In practice, this is a lighter-duty build than the all-wood Originals, reflected in a 150 kg user limit, compared with 250 kg or more on the cherry and oak S4 versions and 318 kg on the Original Performance.
Amazon lists it at 216 cm long, 57 cm wide and 51 cm high, the longest WaterRower we cover. Stood upright, it takes about the floor space of a dining chair.
CR monitor and tracking
The CR monitor has a backlit display, which helps in a dim room or garage, and Bluetooth to track workouts. The listing does not name partner apps or detail which metrics are shown. Four AA batteries are required.
Resistance and feel
Like all WaterRowers, the Hybrid uses a water tank and paddle. Resistance is self-regulating: push harder and the water resists more, so there is no knob or level to adjust. That suits smooth, steady rowing and makes intervals a matter of effort rather than settings. The sound of the water also gives a natural rhythm cue, which many rowers find easier to settle into than the hum of a magnetic brake. The listing does not cover tank care or water volume, so ask the seller what upkeep the tank needs.
Warranty and how it compares
The bullets quote a commercial-grade three-year frame and two-year parts warranty, while the spec table says three years parts and five years frame. Confirm the actual terms before ordering.
Against the Oxbridge in cherry, the Hybrid gives up a solid all-wood frame, the S4 monitor and a higher user limit. Against the Dripex RW625, it brings WaterRower's established design but does not fold. It suits lighter users who want the WaterRower name and feel without stepping up to the all-wood range.
Verdict
The Hybrid in oak is a fit for users under 150 kg who want a WaterRower water feel with a backlit Bluetooth monitor. Heavier rowers or those wanting solid wood throughout should choose the Oxbridge, and anyone needing a rower that folds should consider the Dripex RW625.
