GEONEO 290A: 16 kg flywheel, emergency brake

The GEONEO 290A puts a 35 lb (about 16 kg) flywheel on a compact belt-drive frame, which is a lot of rotating mass at this end of the market. That weight is what gives spin bikes their smooth, carried-through pedal stroke. The catch is a low stated user limit of 200 lb, roughly 91 kg, so this bike suits lighter riders who want a heavier flywheel feel without a large footprint.

In its favour

  • A 35 lb (about 16 kg) flywheel with a belt drive.
  • A push-down emergency brake stops the flywheel quickly.
  • Seat height 83 to 95 cm and bar height 99 to 110 cm, per the listing.

Good to know

  • The 200 lb (about 91 kg) max user weight is low.
  • The monitor shows miles, not kilometres, and the resistance type is listed two ways.

Our take

Flywheel, resistance and brake

Resistance is adjusted infinitely through a knob, and the push-down emergency brake stops the flywheel fast if you need to get off quickly. The title says magnetic resistance while the spec table says friction, so ask GEONEO which system is fitted. A friction system uses a pad that wears and needs replacing over time, while a magnetic one does not.

The belt drive keeps things quiet compared with a chain and needs no oiling, which suits a bike kept in a living room or bedroom.

Fit and adjustment

The seat slides up and down and forwards and back, with a listed height range of 32.7 to 37.4 inches (roughly 83 to 95 cm). The handlebars adjust from 39 to 43.3 inches (about 99 to 110 cm) and include arm and elbow rests, so you can lean into a more stretched-out position on longer efforts.

Front transport wheels help move the 22.7 kg bike.

Console, mount and setup

The LCD shows time, speed, distance, calories and mileage. Note that distances are in miles, not kilometres. A multi-function bracket holds a water bottle, phone and tablet so you can watch videos while riding. No app link is mentioned.

Assembly is described as simple, with an instruction manual in the box. Amazon lists the bike at 104.1 by 53.3 by 116.1 cm.

GEONEO versus the Wenoker JC318 and YPOO BC710

The Wenoker JC318 handles riders up to 160 kg and adds Bluetooth app sync, though its flywheel weight is not given. The YPOO BC710 offers Zwift and Kinomap support and a press-to-stop knob with a 136 kg limit. The GEONEO only makes sense if you fall well within its 91 kg limit and value flywheel mass over apps.

Verdict

Buy the GEONEO 290A if you are a lighter rider who wants a heavy-flywheel spin feel and arm rests on a compact frame. Anyone near or over 91 kg should choose the Wenoker JC318, and riders who want app connections should look at the YPOO BC710.
