The plug-in R15 is the version of MERACH's long-rail rower for people who hate stopping to fiddle with a knob. Buttons on the handlebar step through 16 electronic levels while you row, driven by an electromagnetic system with up to 40 kg of peak resistance. Combine that with the 130 cm double rail and it suits tall users who want quick, quiet changes between hard and easy pieces.

In its favour

  • Sixteen electronic levels change from buttons on the handlebar during a session.
  • The 130 cm extended double rail is aimed at taller users, according to the maker.
  • It arrives about 90% pre-assembled and can fold or stand upright for storage.

Good to know

  • It is a plug-in model, so it needs a socket near where you row.
  • The levels are fixed steps, so it lacks the self-regulating feel of a water or air rower.

Our take

Electromagnetic resistance and handlebar control

MERACH quotes 88 lb (40 kg) at the top of the range. The electronic levels change in real time from the handlebar buttons, which is the main reason to choose this model over the manual R15. Because the steps are fixed, the stroke does not self-regulate like a water rower; you choose the load and it stays there.

The system is described as quiet, which matters in flats.

Rail, frame and monitor

The 130 cm extended double rail is meant to give taller users a full rowing motion, with a frame rated to 158 kg. The listing quotes a 43 lb (about 20 kg) machine weight, and the spec table gives 147 by 46 by 71 cm, which looks shorter than a full 130 cm rail would allow, so treat it as a folded size until confirmed.

A large LED monitor shows key data, and two AAA batteries are included.

Apps, assembly and storage

Over Bluetooth the R15 connects to the MERACH app, which MERACH says includes more than 1,000 courses, interactive games and personalised training plans. You also get an adjustable holder for a tablet or phone and a slot for a water bottle.

About 90% of the machine is assembled out of the box, with MERACH estimating 20 minutes to finish. For storage, the rails fold or the whole rower stands vertically. Because this is a plug-in model, you need a socket near where it will be used. The warranty is 12 months.

R15 electric compared

The YOSUDA RM11 also uses handle buttons, with 32 levels, a 135 cm rail and a wooden frame, and does not need mains power. The WaterRower Original S4 offers water resistance that rises with effort but no buttons at all. The R15 electric is the most direct choice for quick, powered level changes on a long rail.

Verdict

Choose the R15 electric if you want to change resistance from the handle without stopping, need a long rail and have a socket nearby. If you prefer a wooden look with even more levels and no plug, the YOSUDA RM11 suits better, and fans of water feel should look at the WaterRower Original S4.
